Orange leads the dance charge

If people ever needed an excuse to dance then mobile phone company Orange seem to have come up with a pretty good one.
The firm has teamed up with renewable energy firm GotWind to produce the Orange Dance Charge, which, yep you guessed it, charges your phone using the energy you produce while dancing and festivalgoers at this weekend’s Glastonbury will put the device through its paces.
By employing scientific and renewable energy boffins Orange has produced the product, which could be invaluable to ravers who leave a club in the early hours of the morning only to find they can’t phone a taxi or their mates because their mobile has died.
The aforementioned scientific whiz-kids have designed a system of weights and magnets to harness the kinetic energy produced while dancing to provide power to the phone, in much the same way as a kinetic watch is charged through body movements.
Should tiredness or vanity come into it the companies have also installed a solar-powered and wind-powered recharging tent at Glasto to continue the environmentally-friendly theme.
Hattie Magee, head of partnerships at the phone company, said: “We wanted to create a fun, engaging and interactive product which would encourage users to have a laugh while charging their mobile phone.”
Making use of it at a festival should be a laugh, however dancing while sat on the bus trying to find out what your friends are up to may not be so much fun.
