Daft Punk dropped that infectious radio and club friendly hit ‘Around the World’ tune, and indeed it is - eleven years to be exact.

However with that song and the album Homework, the Parisian duo began moulding the shape of French dance music for years to come.

Surkin, a 21-year-old producer for Institubes, was a wee ankle-biter when Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter released their subliminal first album but he knows what effect it has had on future record spinners from across the channel.

In an interview with Inthemix.com, the producer from ‘La Province’ cites Daft Punk as a major, but not the only influence on his own sound.

“Every single French artist is influenced by Daft Punk. Daft Punk are obviously part of my DNA; their albums are classics. But then; if you play the influence game, you have to realise that everybody is different,”

Not many dance fans would argue that having Daft Punk in your DNA makes you part of dance music royalty.

Vive la France!
