Born in London, big in Tokyo, it seems the ascent of dubstep is unstoppable.

While Benga, Skream and Hijak are the names most likely to roll off the tongues of aficionados, Japanese beat basher Goth-Trad is blazing the trail for the grimy sound in the Far East.

In an interview with Central Station, the DJ explains how a combination of Britain’s finest and local spinners are helping the underground, bass-heavy music spread across Japan.

Goth-Trad burst onto the music scene in 2001 on the Batofar boat in France where his fresh take on dance music won him many admirers and his reputation has gone from strength to strength since.

He told the website his ambition is to spread the dubstep gospel to the masses through banging club nights with top quality tunes.

“The scene is getting bigger in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka; there is a good night called Drum N Bass Sessions in Tokyo, which has been inviting dubstep DJs from the UK every month since early 2007…And it’s getting bigger, I hope the scene will grow with local people,” he said.

If he and UK pioneers continue to produce the quality we are used to, his wish may soon be granted.
