Midweek parties are nothing but trouble, but always all the more fun for it. This Wednesday (9th April) sees just about as much trouble as it’s possible to stir up on a school night as no less than 44 DJs pair up for ultra rare back2back sets in 3 rooms at The End in London.

It’s all in aid the much loved Paul ‘Trouble’ Arnold, the man behind the long-running Chew The Fat! club nights, record label and DJ agency, who was diagnosed with leukemia late last year shortly after this interview.

The line up can only be described as fantastic, so we spoke to Alexei from Fat! about the fundraising night, an update on Paul and what lies ahead…

Tell us how such an amazing line-up came together?

“Any promoter who has been working in the club scene for as long as Paul has will obviously have made a lot of friends over time. But I think this line-up really brings home how many DJs and promoters Paul has worked with and the talent he has helped nurture. We are really touched that there have been so many people willing to come forward and contribute to this event. In fact Troublestock is in existence purely because we had such an overwhelming amount of offers from all over the club scene that we decided the best thing to do would be to put on one big event that everyone could get involved in.”

Which performances are you particularly looking forward to on the night?

“Really hard to say because there is such an amazing wealth of talent on offer. Plump DJs, Stantons, James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli & Sinden sets are sure to all be storming. I haven’t seen Kissy Sell Out in action yet so that’s a must, plus I’d like to see what Rob Da Bank is up to at the moment. Baobinga is definitely also worth catching, he’s really pushing the boat out in his sets with a mish-mash of all sorts like Baltimore, techno, fidget house and his own brand of subby madness. Kid Blue always rocks the main room so I’d recommend getting there early for his back2back with Merka. A lot of the DJs on the list have already been tried and tested on our recent Chew The Fat! line-ups so I can guarantee pretty much any room you end up in will definitely rock!”

Can you update us on Paul, and what does he have to say about the event?

“Paul is still undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the moment. Once this is over he will need several months of recovery from the treatment which will mean he is going to be out of action for a while yet. The good news is that the type of cancer he has is treatable and has a good success rate. Paul is absolutely stoked about all the support he has received over the last few months. It’s been really hard for him and his fiancée, who have both struggled without an income while he is in hospital. This event will help remove a massive financial burden for them and for that he is eternally thankful.”

Are there any particular ways proceeds from the night will be helping him out?

“The money generated from this event will go solely towards paying for Paul’s treatment, recovery and living costs while he is unable to work. Paul has already expressed that he is very keen to start getting involved with Leukemia Research once he is well again, so expect a lot more charity work from Fat! in the future. Actually many of his friends and also all of us here at the Fat! office are already signed up to a load of fund-raising exploits. I’ll be jumping out of a plane in May along with 15 of Paul’s friends plus doing a half-marathon in October!”

Any special messages you’d like people to know before the event?

“Thanks to all the people who have already bought a ticket for this event, we appreciate that you are all coming out on a school night. Just hoping that the wheels of industry in London and Ipswich keep turning on Thursday! A massive thanks to all the DJs, press people, promoters, and everyone else who has offered their services for free to make this happen and a very special thanks to all the staff at The End for supporting the Fat! cause over the last few years and making every month a wicked party!”
