Dance Aid Returns
Dance Aid is a simple, but somewhat unique concept in the all-too-often morally-dubious world of club promotion; quality club nights on a strictly not-for-profit remit!
However, without the gargantuan profile of a Bob Geldof at the helm, and the associated media machine that follows Live Aid, Dance Aid’s success has come from the hard graft and commitment of its organisers, who are now proudly taking the charity into its third year.
Growing at a steady rate, the charity raised £5,000 at its 2006 event at Scala in London’s King’s Cross, then followed this up with £17,000 and £20,000 events in 2007, selling out its venues, but not its ethics.
February 8th sees Dance Aid enter the New Year with a visit to the Ministry of Sound, where we can hopefully play our part in the continued success of this unique club brand, as they aim to add another £30,000 to their grand total of £42,000; making it their biggest event yet.
A hugely worthwhile cause, Dance Aid has seen its donations reach Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, with 100% of proceeds from the next event heading in the direction of the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) and NCH (National Children’s Hospital).
However, it is not just the organisers who have a heart of gold, but EVERY DJ on EVERY line-up has committed their time and efforts to the cause for free; this has included some serious names such as Dave Spoon, Hoxton Whores, Ratpack and Splimatt, while the next event will feature Nicky Holloway, Trevor Fung, Femi B, Alex P, Brandon Block and many others
So if you’re stuck for something to do on Friday 8th February, there are much worse things to spend your hard earned time and money on than supporting ‘Dance Aid 2008 – Rave For A Reason’ at Ministry of Sound.
