Trance Awards Voting Opens
The floodgates have opened today for nominations in this year’s Trance Awards. Voters can chose between 13 categories ranging from Best Producer to Best Club, as well as a new category ‘Best New Face’ recognising newcomers to a scene dominated by big names.
Surprisingly the awards only started three years ago, sometime after the major trance explosion, suggesting that trance is far from dead (much to the dismay of many cynics out there) and continues to be celebrated.
Armin Van Buuren cleaned up with 5 trophies last year, off the back of a successful 2006 summer residency in Ibiza and given his increased success in the 12 months since then it’s going to be a tough call for anyone hoping to beat the new king of trance.
Having just won the title of number one DJ in the world in DJmag’s Top 100 DJs Poll, Armin is the big contender again this year which could see old favourites like Paul Van Dyk and JFK lose out again to a DJ who for many years appeared beneath them on flyers.
Ultimately the decision rests with the fans. Interestingly, voters visiting the site are free to nominate anyone in the categories and are not restricted by pre-selected nominees, thus relying on their real passion and insight into the scene.
The awards are taking place on December 22nd at one of the biggest trance clubs in the UK; The Emporium in Coalville, Leicester – home of Passion – and will be hosted by club favourite Judge Jules.
Other DJs on the night include Dogzilla man Simon Paterson and trusted Gatecrasher resident, Matt Hardwick.
