Following the UK’s summer of festival mudbaths, including a phenomenally gloopy Global Gathering, (check out the video of our camping experience in all it’s dirt-caked glory) the mud has followed GG all the way to the tropics.

Saturday’s Global Gathering in Malaysia was by all accounts another mud-fest after heavy rain transformed the site at the A’Famosa Resort into an authentic replica of this summer’s waterlogged Stratford Upon Avon site. At least the local clubbers got a truly authentic taste of things for Global Gathering’s first ever visit to Asia!

Headlining Brits including Layo & Bushwacka and The Shapeshifters probably didn’t pack their wellies,

dreaming of a nice trip to Melaka, where the average temperature is well into the 80s - but monsoon rains are frequent.

Seems like the Malaysians are as hardy a lot as us when it comes to their partying though, and despite the dire conditions under foot we’re told they went suitably bonkers to a whole host of talent including Sander van Doorn, Plump DJs, Astro & Glyde and Hyper.

Somewhere it’s heartening to know that the elements can be equally unpredictable wherever in the world you try and hold a big festival. It’s actually a big part of what makes going nuts to electronic beats and bands in a giant tent so exciting. Like the music, the experience of wading through mud to hear it crosses all cultural barriers.

We are one world, united by music and muck!
