The mad scramble for votes in this year’s DJ Magazine Top 100 begins today. What started out as a poll of a few hundred magazine readers in the early 90s has ballooned into a massive global popularity contest and, for better of worse, the rankings really matter to every big DJs career.

Therefore expect to be blitzed with email spam, flyers, Facebook invitations and bribes (well, tasty competition prizes anyway) from DJs desperately trying to secure your vote.

Recent years have proved controversial as internet voting means DJs who are relatively unknown on the global scene have scored highly by running a massive campaign for support in their home country, often getting votes from people who may never have even seen them play.

There are also always accusations of people cheating the voting system, but DJmag insist the final results come from genuine votes. With more votes likely to pour in than ever this year, one thing’s for sure, the results are going to provoke plenty of comments when then come out in October…
